This Veterans Day was not just a celebration for the military, but also a big day for babies born on the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011.At Akron General Medical Center, there were eight babies — seven natural births and one Caesarean section. There were 17 births at hospitals affiliated with Summa Health: Four were born at Barberton Hospital; nine, at Akron City Hospital; and four, at Robinson Memorial in Ravenna. There were at least four induced labors, but the hospital spokeswoman said she was prohibited from giving out specific information. This particular sequence of numbers occurs only once in a century.Stephanie Davis, 21, and her finance, Jeff, who is also 21 and shares the last name Davis, decided to induce labor as her due date passed on Thursday. On Friday, Dr. Peter Sutter made it happen for the Barberton family. Tristan Brantley Davis was born at 1:43 a.m. after four hours of labor at Barberton Hospital. “My due date was Thursday, he was one day late, so we decided if he waits, we’ll induce labor on 11/11/11 and that would be the perfect day,” Davis said.“I thought the date would be cool and easy to remember, but the numbers weren’t that important,” said Jeff Davis. “Having the baby was exciting, especially a healthy baby.”But wait. There’s more.Stephanie Davis’ 4-year-old son, Trent Davis Thompson, was born 7/7/07. He also was one day late, and his arrival was prompted by induced labor.“I was in labor a long time with him. I came in at noon on my due date and he was born 16 hours later the next day,” she said. “In fact, the boys are exactly four years, four months and four days apart.”Both babies weighed 8 pounds and were born in Room 305 at Barberton Hospital.Could there be more?Stephanie Davis’ sister, Rebecca Davis, has a son, Mason, who was born on 1/11/11.Stephanie Davis’ mother, Renea Davis, missed the cut by one year: She was born on 6/6/67.Now Stephanie and Jeff are entertaining the suggestion from her mother that they move their wedding date to 12/12/12.“It’s possible,” Jeff said.“That’s pretty cool, we hadn’t thought of that,” Stephanie said. And, she points out, the paperwork won’t be overwhelming. “I won’t have to change my name.”Her mother can identify with that.“I never had to change my name, either,” she said. “My maiden name was Davis, too, and I married a Davis.”Marilyn Miller can be reached at 330-996-3098 or mmiller@thebeaconjournal.com.
